I was born into a dog owning family in Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia) and have continued that interest with passion!
I grew up with Airedale’s, Cocker Spaniels, and English Setters, my parents imported dogs from the Iroquois Kennel of Lesley Allen Smith (UK). The Dog Show Scene in Rhodesia, where I grew up, was small; I helped many owners handle their dogs, so my interest in different breeds of dogs evolved.
After moving to Amanzimtoti, on the East Coast of South Africa, I was given a German Shepherd, and helped handle the breeder’s dogs. I acquired my first Siberian Husky in 1988. My Kennel Name SIBRA is registered with the Kennel Union of Southern Africa. My first homebred litter of Siberians produced 4 Champions.
After visiting America in 1992, I fell in love with the Japanese Shiba Inu and am the top breeder, of Shiba’s in South Africa; I have combined lines, from New Zealand, Australia, Holland and England, while the breed is small in number in South Africa the quality shines through. I now also have a Powder Puff Chinese Crested.
My first judging appointment was in 1976 and after moving to South Africa, I worked my way through the KUSA’s Breed Judges Qualifying Scheme. I have also passed the UK Kennel Club’s Confirmation Exam. I am approved to judge All Breeds and Best in Show at Championship Show& FCI level. I have judged throughout South Africa, Zimbabwe, America, England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Thailand, India, Philippines and Canada.
I also have a passion for Junior Handling, both my children took part. I have visited numerous shows (including Crufts) in England, Ireland, USA and Europe, extending my knowledge of the different breeds, enjoying every minute, marveling as so many do, at the quantities and quality of dogs, I have made many friends on these trips.
I am chairman of the Exco of KUSA and a Federal Councilor, I am also Chairman of Northern Natal Kennel Club; I have 2 children Tyrone and Kerrie both University Graduates. I am a qualified Bookkeeper.
I also judge Obedience and Carting. I have the first Shiba to be a dual Champion in Breed and Carting.
